How is the Group 2 exam structured?
APPSC Group 2 has three steps under notification 11/2023. First, a Screening Test of 150 marks. You only need to clear it. Then the Mains, 300 marks across two papers. This alone decides your rank. Then a computer test of 100 marks in 60 minutes, which you also only need to clear: 40 for OC, 35 for BC and 30 for SC, ST and PH, under notification 11/2023, Annexure II. There is no interview. Every question is multiple choice, in English and Telugu. One third of a mark is cut for each wrong answer. The last Screening was on 25 February 2024 and the last Mains on 23 February 2025.
| Step | Papers | Marks | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Screening Test | 1 paper, 150 questions, 150 minutes | 150 | you clear it; marks not counted |
| Mains | 2 papers, 150 questions each | 300 | decides your rank |
| Computer proficiency test | practical, 60 minutes | 100 | you clear it: 40 OC, 35 BC, 30 SC, ST, PH |
One thing to know. The 2024 Screening asked no polity and no economy. The 2025 Mains asked no geography, society or mental ability. Each of these papers has run once in this format. So this is the shape of the last paper, not a rule.

What does the Screening Test cover, part by part?
The APPSC Group 2 Screening Test held on 25 February 2024 had five parts of 30 marks each: history, geography, Indian society, current affairs and mental ability. That is 150 questions in 150 minutes, 30 out of 150 marks for each part. The table shows what each part asked most in that paper. Prepare all five to a clear-it standard. The marks are not added to your rank, so the aim here is to get through, not to top it.
| Part | Marks | What the February 2024 paper asked most, with the marks each topic carried |
|---|---|---|
| A History | 30 | Ancient India 6, British administration and economy 6, National movement 4, Art and culture 3 |
| B Geography | 30 | Geomorphology 5, India: climate, soils, vegetation 4, India: physiography and drainage 4, Andhra Pradesh geography 2 |
| C Indian Society | 30 | Marriage, family and kinship 5, Women and gender 4, Caste and Scheduled Caste issues 3, Child welfare 3 |
| D Current Affairs | 30 | Andhra Pradesh and the region 5, International affairs 4, Awards and honours 3, Environment and ecology 3 |
| E Mental Ability | 30 | Arithmetic word problems 5, Coding and decoding 3, Number properties and series 3, Puzzles and selection 3 |
Current affairs is 30 marks out of 150 here, and it appears nowhere else in the Screening. Cover the year before the exam and you have covered it.

What changed in 2023, and what is not in the syllabus?
APPSC issued a new Group 2 syllabus on 27 April 2023, and notification 11/2023 of 7 December 2023 changed the exam with it. General studies and mental ability left the Mains and became the Screening. The Mains went from three papers of 450 marks to two papers of 300. A computer test was added. So the papers from 2016 and 2018 test a different shape. Use them to practise chapters, not to guess the next paper.
- General studies and mental ability are no longer a Mains paper. They are the Screening now.
- There is no interview at any stage. Your Mains marks are your rank, notification 11/2023 paragraph 15.2.
- The syllabus does not fix a current-affairs period. It says major current events. The 2024 paper mostly asked about the year before it.
- No cut-off has been published for the 2024 Screening or the 2025 Mains. The result notices list register numbers only.

How do I use this map?
Take the APPSC Group 2 syllabus one subject at a time, in the order above. Tick a chapter once when you understand it. Tick it again when you can answer questions on it without looking. The 4 trackers carry the same chapters with a box for each attempt. Give the Mains most of your time, because your rank is set by its 300 marks alone. Prepare the 5 Screening parts to clear them, and no more than that.
- Read one chapter free to see how the notes work: Andhra in the freedom struggle.
- Print the tracker for the subject you are on. Tick chapters as you understand them, then again as you can recall them.
- The previous papers page has the official booklets and keys behind every mark on this page.
