What is the APPSC Group 2 cut-off, and does it exist?

Which APPSC cut-offs have actually been published?

APPSC has published category-wise cut-offs for the APPSC Group 2 screening test of 2019 and for the Group 1 Mains-to-interview stage of notification 28/2022, the latter as recently as 7 June 2024. It has never published a Group 1 Prelims cut-off for any cycle, and it published none for the 2024 screening or the 2025 Mains of notification 11/2023.

The open-category line was 409 out of 750, which is 54.5 percent. The gap between it and the Scheduled Tribe line of 362.5 is 46.5 marks, about 6 percent of the paper. BC-C at 403 sat above BC-A at 379, so the reserved lines do not fall in a neat order.

For Group 1 the screening stage is different again: the one figure ever published is 90.42 out of 240 for the 2019 screening under notification 27/2018, when 8,351 candidates qualified. No Group 1 Prelims cut-off has been published for any cycle since.

What happened in the 2023 to 2026 Group 2 cycle?

APPSC Group 2 notification 11/2023 came out on 7 December 2023 for 905 posts. 404,037 of the 483,525 who registered sat the screening on 25 February 2024, 92,250 were sent to Mains, 2,517 reached verification and 891 were selected on 28 January 2026. That is 25.7 months from notification to list.

Group 1 ran on the same calendar. Notification 12/2023 on 8 December 2023, screening on 17 March 2024 with 91,463 appearing, 4,496 to Mains, 182 to interview, and 87 selected on 30 January 2026. Again no cut-off mark was printed at any stage.

Does a reserved category always get a lower cut-off?

No, and APPSC's own notifications show it three times over. In the 2019 Group 2 screening, BC-A, BC-B and BC-D landed on exactly the open-category mark of 81.20. The same happened in the Group 4 screening of 2022 and in the Executive Officer screening of 2022, where BC-B and even a Scheduled Caste non-local line sat at the general standard.

Notification 11/2023 paragraph 10.4, citing G.O.Ms.No.5 GA (Ser-A) of 5 January 2018: the Commission applies relaxed standards only if it judges that too few candidates from a category would otherwise qualify to fill the vacancies reserved for it.

So a relaxed cut-off is a tool the commission uses when a category would otherwise not fill its reserved vacancies. It is not an entitlement, and planning a score around an expected relaxation is planning around something that may not arrive.

How long did the whole thing take?

APPSC Group 2 notification 11/2023 was published on 7 December 2023 and the selection list came out on 28 January 2026, which is 25.7 months from one to the other. The screening came 80 days after the notification; the gap that stretched the cycle was the twelve months between the screening and the Mains.

If you are deciding whether to start, this is the honest shape of the wait: a little under three months to the first paper, and a little over two years to a posting order.

What is the minimum qualifying mark, and is it the cut-off?

APPSC sets a minimum qualifying mark of 40 percent for OC and EWS, 35 percent for BC and 30 percent for SC, ST and people with disabilities, on the aggregate of the Mains, under a 1967 government order that both 2023 notifications cite. This is a floor, not the cut-off. In 2019 the OC screening line of 81.2 out of 150 was 54 percent, well above the 40 percent floor.

Why do other websites show a 2024 or 2025 cut-off?

Because the 2024 and 2025 APPSC result notices carry only register numbers, and the commission's own results page lists them behind links that search engines cannot follow. So coaching sites fill the gap with expected figures. The last cut-off APPSC printed for Group 2 was for the 2019 screening; for Group 1 it was the 2019 screening too. Any table dated 2024 or 2025 is a guess unless it says which document it came from.

What score should I aim for in Group 2?

In the last APPSC Group 2 Mains where every candidate's marks were published, 5,764 people sat and the top score was 328.92 out of 450, which is 73 percent. The median was 228.47, almost exactly half. Rank 500 scored 267.66, only 61 marks below the topper. That paper was the old three-paper pattern, so treat the shape as the lesson and not the numbers.

Nobody in 5,764 candidates reached three quarters of the paper. The distance from rank 1 to rank 500 is 61 marks, so the top of the list is tightly packed and a handful of marks moves you a long way.
